Beautiful melodies, stunning improvisations, mesmerising grooves – Alma Orquestra touches the hearts of their listeners every time they perform their irresistible music.

Alma Orquestra perform their imaginative interpretations of Portuguese Fado and folk tunes of the Iberian Peninsula. Their originals draw inspiration from Portuguese styles infused with elements of jazz, pop and classical music. From traditional to modern and original Portuguese song, Alma Orquestra’s sound tells a story and embodies a unique freshness, capturing the curiosity of their listeners and taking them on new and soulful journeys.

Alma Orquestra has performed at a number of festivals and community events including annual appearances at Petersham’s Portuguese Food and Wine Festival, and live shows at Sydney’s Foundry 616, the Camelot Lounge, and Smith’s Jazz Club in the ACT. They headlined at the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival in 2023 to a full house at Low 302.  Alma have performed with Fado Australia, and wowed audiences across the country when they featured on SBS’s Destination Flavour Eurovision with Adam Liaw.

This spectacular five-piece ensemble features Sydney’s renowned songstress/fadista & violinist Mandie Vieira, alongside fellow Portuguese-Australian musician Loretta Palmeiro (saxophone/clarinet/flute) and a stellar rhythm section in drummer Mike Quigley, bassist Hannah James and guitarist Jeremy Sawkins.
